why not? Innit!

Posted this on a Swedish Raw food community website I very recently joined, and thought I would share it with you, don't know why I was writing in English in a Swedish community and on a Swedish site, but since I did, and it's worth reading. I thought, lets repost it here.
Posted a talk by Jane Goodall on my blog you might be interested to see it. About 30 minutes long.

She doesn't talk to much about diet but it might interest you that:

bonobos (dwarf chimps), the closest DNA link to humans, prefers, over all other foods, figs. Fresh figs... oh and figs being very sweet and delicious would probably have maggots and insects in them.

the once who eat meat (rarely), not all of them do you see, are the once who are more aggressive.

my conclusion

meat=aggression

inspiration

Jane Goodall - a very inspiring woman!

Thanks to Adam for this link.

The future is in our hands, we can either drop it,or we can carry it forward with care. The choice is always with you, in every act that you do!

much love

More water info!

Water: The source of all life.

About 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water and 97% of this is salt water. Although the salt can be removed (desalination), it is a difficult and expensive process. 2% of the water on earth is glacier ice at the North and South Poles while less than 1% of all the water on earth is fresh water that we can actually use.

Embedded water, a hidden ecological problem

Various forecasts predict that the worlds population will exceed 8 billion in 20 years time, increasing global demand for food and energy with the need for fresh water rising by 30 percent. This will place an unsustainable stress on the worlds eco-systems. This could lead to a perfect storm, a term used by the UK governments chief scientist, Professor John Beddington, to describe future shortages of energy, food and water.

What many people fail to appreciate is that consumption goes beyond simple use of water in everyday life. There is the more important embedded water - the water used to grow food.

You are what you drink

Water is the fountain of youth, and the elixir of life.

When you were born you were about 90% water. Think about it, that is allot of water. and when you are born, you are fully alive.

At the moment you are around 70% water.

When your body reaches 50% water, you are clinically dead.

We lose about 2.5 litres of water every day, through normal functioning, we need to get that back through our food, our skin and through drinking water.

Most people don't drink enough water, and water is life.
To make it easy, water is involved in most bodily functions, and if you want them to function well you want your body to stay hydrated with new fresh water.

Most people are chronically dehydrated, this shows up in various ways, everything from asthma and IBS to headaches and dry skin.

If you are overweight you can usually lose easy kilos by just starting drinking the right amount of water.

Your body needs about 1,5 - 2 litres per day to function normally, if you loose allot of liquid due to exercise or hot weather, more might be good. the more you weigh the more you need. and depending on your state of dehdration, and how dry your food is you might need, much more.

Start your day with plenty of water

Before you leave bed in the morning, drink a large glass of water (the larger the better) first thing in the morning...

Drinking warm water in the morning is also very helpful and cleansing for the system.

Recipe to health

Poliana is happy to live on green smoothies, fruits, nuts and more smoothies, flax crackers and veggies. she likes to have things as they are, without processing.

So do I, but I also like to eat more elaborate things... meals "foody stuff" like a cocked diet offers... So every so often I make something.

I don't use recipes, and I don't usually write them down.

so this time I thought I would write down a recipe for you. I am making it as I write, and as I find ingredients to put in.

I am making a "Spicy Thai Coconut Curry" with "noodles"

Noodles:
2 Carrots
1 cucumber
use a peeler to make strips of the carrot and the cucumber. then toss together in a bowl, and put to the side. if you have a mandolin you can use it, the smaller and thinner strips you make the better it will be.

Dice the cucumber seed house (the centre) and any cucumber bits you get over and put to the side, we'll add them to the curry later for a bit of exciting texture.

The Curry:
1 whole coconut
open the nut and put the coconut water and coconut meat in a blender. add perhaps 3 glasses of water and start blending (for a good 3 minutes, until it is liquid, and smooth). pour your mixture through a sieve to separate the pulp from the liquid.
you will use the liquid. put the pulp to the side (we'll use it for a simple desert).

quick green smoothie!

Sitting drinking a green smoothie!

what is that?

a smoothie, which is green.

any dark leafy green of your choice, water and fruit of your choice.
Banana, peach, apple, pear... well you get the drift.

at the moment I am drinking a smoothie made from
Couve (like kale) (16 - 20 big leaves)
pint of water
4 small bananas
one avocado
juice from a small lime...

Blend all ingredients - except avocado which you blend in just in the end.

it isn't one for the beginners as it is tasting very green... however just put more bananas in there and maybe a bit less green and you will love it... The avo makes it nice thick and creamy.

Start your day with a green smoothie, and you will notice an improvment, no matter what dietary habits you follow...

oh and you make it in under 5 minutes, fast, simple and oh so yummy...

much love
